Sidewalk Launches in Washington DC
We’re excited to announce that Sidewalk is officially live in Washington DC! Sidewalk is a free app that offers a fresh, local perspective of places and stories in the city. Whether you’re an inquisitive local or an out-of-towner, you can download the Sidewalk app for iOS on the App Store and for Android on Google Play, to explore new or familiar places, and get an insider’s perspective with self-guided Sidewalks. Because the app allows anyone to build Sidewalks (and earn gratuities for doing so!), DC locals can more easily share what they love about their favorite places with anyone.
Washington DC marks our fifth featured city, after launching last month with Sidewalks in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. Since then, we’ve seen an upswell in DC locals building story-worthy experiences and we’re excited to feature the city in time for the Fourth of July.
Washington DC overflows with stories and sights to discover: politics and diplomacy, Founding Father history, world-class museums, a burgeoning food scene and cultural diversity. While our nation’s capital is no stranger to guided tours, Sidewalk introduces something brand new: off-the-beaten-path walks created by passionate storytellers looking to share their local perspective. And these digital walks are available whenever you are.
We’re launching in DC with seven Sidewalks:
- Assassins, Conspiracy & Theater: Lincoln's Last Days & the Plot to Overthrow the Union
Clearly there are many more stories to tell about DC. Are you an amateur photographer who knows how to capture the monuments after dark? A university student who knows the off campus hangouts? A fashion expert who knows the best boutiques in Old Town Alexandria? Check out our tips for Guides and create a walk that tells the story of your DC. Help others see the city the way you do, and earn a few dollars as well.
Stay tuned for more updates from Sidewalk on our next city launch. In the meantime, keep on sharing your stories and let us know where you’re looking to go explore by chiming in by leaving a comment below or on our Facebook page!
